Highland Reels Slot

Set in the Scottish mountains, Highland Reels is an online slot game created by Eyecon and released in 2021. With hammer-throw and caber-toss bonus rounds, this slot is unlike anything else in the industry, whilst other bonus mechanics such as wild symbols, free spins, and pick features can be triggered. Featuring different coloured kilts and bagpipes, Highland Reels is a slot game that is clearly inspired by Scottish traditions, making it one of the most unique online slot games on the market.

Highland Reels Game Background

Despite its unique theme, the core gameplay mechanics in this Scottish slot are very basic and traditional. Highland Reels uses a 5x3 playgrid, meaning there are 5 reels and 3 rows for slot symbols to land across in this casino game. Regarding paylines, Highland Reels uses 25 ways to form matched combinations, and identical symbols must land on adjacent reels. Matched combinations must start on the leftmost reel, with 3, 4 or 5 matching symbols triggering a prize in play.

Visually, Highland Reels stands out as one of the most unique games available at BOYLE Casino, as it uses the Scottish Highlands as its theme. In the background, crowds gather to watch Hammer and Caber toss, while Scottish flags fly high across the backdrop. On either side of the playgrid, two competitors stand ready to throw objects into the air, while bagpipes and flags cover the reels. The slot symbols' background features a tartan design, adding to the Scottish aesthetic.

Not many slot games are based on countries or their traditions; however, BOYLE Casino offers a couple to experience here, such as the London Tube and Octobeer Fortunes slot, available to check out.

Highland Reels Slot Symbols

The slot symbols that appear throughout Highland Reels fit into the theme well, as the higher-value icons are boulders, cabers, kilts and Scotsmen. For the lower-value symbols, there is clear inspiration taken from live casino games, as playing card numbers and letters appear across the reels. Each of these lower-value icons is designed in a unique colour, with a tartan pattern used on each symbol.

Lower Value Symbols:

Medium Value Symbols:

Boulder
Caber

Higher Value Symbols:

Kilt

Alongside the regular symbols, there are two bonus icons available in Highland Reels, which are the Hammer Throw symbol and the Scotsman symbol. These both act as scatters and are designed with a golden border, ensuring they stand out from other regular icons. There is also a golden trophy icon that can land throughout the reels, which is the wild symbol in Highland Reels.

Highland Reels Bonus Features

The hammer throw bonus triggers when 3 or more scattered hammer symbols land anywhere on the reels, taking players to a pick feature. Users will throw a hammer onto targets, revealing cash prizes ranging from 2x to 100x the stake.

The caber toss is triggered when 3 or more Scotsman symbols appear anywhere on the reels, and this is similar to the hammer throw, as players can throw cabers onto targets to reveal cash prizes. However, there is a possibility to trigger free spins in this mode, with 10 free spins available. Free spins do not come with any additional features, except the fact that every matched combination in this mode is doubled in value.

One of the most popular bonuses in online casino games is the wild symbol, and this is present here in Highland Reels. The wild symbol can substitute for all regular icons, and it can only appear on reels 2 and 4. If a wild symbol is part of a matched combination, the prize value will be doubled.
