elementastic tug of war

Even before the first rays of light illuminated the Earth, it was already inhabited by some rampaging, untamed forces of nature. These two dwellers were born because of the clash of elements within the Earth’s crust. Since one could not prevail over another, they were scattered across the space to reign the allocated domains. At this moment, water and fire elements came to life. These eternal rivals witnessed rises and demises of empires, collected endless memories, and beheld the evolution of humankind from the first word uttered until the peak of advancement. However, despite the pace of time, one trait remained unaltered. From the dawn of civilization, people revered nature. They worshipped its elements, believing that these were the forces that bound everything together. More worshippers created more elemental spirits, engulfing them in the tug of war in between. You either set your wish ablaze or soothed it in the void of the sea. The more these elemental spirits consumed, the more avid they became.
